Research Specialist, Welding

Jay Kahar

Jay Kahar is a Research Specialist in Welding at the Canadian Centre for Welding and Joining. He completed his MEng in Materials Engineering at the University of Alberta in 2025 and has been with CCWJ since 2024, first as a Volunteer, then as a Graduate Research Assistant, and now as a Research Specialist.

In his current role, Jay is part of CCWJ’s leadership team, working across welding and materials research, lab management, and research operations. His work includes preparing research proposals, managing project budgets, assisting with equipment and technical reporting, coordinating procurement, and supporting day-to-day research activities. Jay also manages CCWJ’s communications and administrative coordination, including website development and event planning.

Jay has a background in metallurgical engineering, with prior industry experience in large-scale manufacturing. His work brings together technical welding and industrial knowledge, research support, and practical project coordination to help strengthen CCWJ’s research capacity and industry partnerships.

In his free time, Jay enjoys hiking, exploring nature trails, long walks, video games, swimming, and watching F1.
